Polymer names capitalization

In text, do not capitalize polymer names that contain the names of the polymerizing species in parentheses following the prefix poly . At the beginning of a sentence, capitalize only the P in poly . 

In text, keep polymer names lowercase. As the first word of a sentence and in titles or headings, capitalize only the first letter of the polymer name. 

Recently, hot melt PSA systems have been introduced and radiation curable PSA systems are at the commercial development stage. High solids (50%-70% by wt.) nonaqueous dispersion acrylic PSA systems have also been reported(1). Unlike the hot melt and radiation cured systems which require new capital outlay in coating head and/or curing (drying) equipment, BFG has developed PSA systems, based on Hycar 2100R reactive acrylic liquid polymers and isocyanate terminated prepolymer, which can be processed at 80% solids (by wt.) with equipment presently used in the PSA industry, namely, the reverse roll and knife-over-roll coater.

Because of the complex, chemical names used to describe polymers, they are nearly always referred to by abbreviations. Such abbreviations take the form of a short string of capital letters each capital letter refers to a part of the common name. If the plastics material begins with poly then the first letter is P the other letter (s) are derived from the monomer unit. Names such as polystyrene and polyethylene are thus shortened to PS and PE respectively (see table 1).

Modification of natural polymers such as starch, cellulose, proteins, etc. is a way of capitalizing on the well-accepted biodegradability of the base material with the intention of developing biodegradable or environmentally acceptable polymers that function in variety of commercial applications.
