Polybenzimidazole PBI high temperature polymers and blends

Abstract This chapter discusses polybenzimidazole (PBI), PBI blends, and some of their high temperature applications. The chapter first reviews the PBI polymer, including its history, structure, properties, synthesis, advantages and limitations. It then focuses on various PBI blends and their properties. The chapter also summarizes current commercial PBI and PBI blend products and provides examples of PBI and PBI blends in high temperature apphcations. [Pg.174]

an affiliate of the InterTech Group of North Charleston, SC, and the world s only commercial producer of PBI polymer (Fig. 7.1) and fiber. [Pg.175]

High temperature-performance polymer needs often emerge where blend technology is required or expedites performance optimization of available materials. Ideally, the resulting blend is a miscible combination where phase separation does not occur during thermoplastic processing. [Pg.177]

A great deal of literature on FBI has been developed since the first reported synthesis. Many aromatic FBI variants have been synthesized and studied, but the commercial FBI product is the one dted most often and receiving most attention in developmental applications it is particularly [Pg.178]
