Polyaromatic alkaloids

An examination of the composition of polyaromatic alkaloids of the mollusk Chelynotus semperi and an unidentified tunicate, both collected from Mante channel, Pohnpei, resulted in the identification of shermilamine B [129] and kuanoniamines A-D [130-133] (105). Shermilamine was originally found as a metabolite of a tunicate of the genus TruUdanmon (106).

However, if the raw materials are contaminated or the composting process is incomplete, unfavorable effects must be expected. Heavy metals may be introduced into the compost with communal waste. To ensure that these do not enter the food chain, authorised limit values must be strictly adhered to. The same is true of organic contaminants (particularly polyaromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbons), the effect of which is extremely complex. If the fermentation process is not satisfactory, putrefaction will occur, the by-products of which (S02, NH3, N02, organic acids, cadaveric alkaloids, etc.) inhibit plant growth and attract pests. 

Neutral alumina is generally recommended for separation of alkaloids, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, cholesterol, glycosides, vitamins and various pharmaceuticals. Acidic alumina yields a good separation of fats and waxes, fatty acids, morphine derivatives, and food dyestuffs, while basic alumina plays an essential role in the separation of alkaloids, biogenic amines, phenothiazines, hydrocarbons, insecticides, and some synthetic bases. 

Recent research progresses on lamellarins and analogous hexacyclic polyaromatic pyrrole alkaloids of bioactive marine mollusk 05CJO641. 

This chapter demonstrates successful examples of GC-SIOMS. It is certain that this method can be extended to analysis of organic compounds in many fields that can be ionized efficiently on the SI emitter. These compounds include alkylamines, diamines, amino alcohols, hydrazines, nitrosamines, 5-membered and 6-membered ring heterocyclic amines, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, terpenoids, organometallic compounds, amino acids, purine bases, alkaloids, and so on.
