CEL dye. A CEL solution was obtained by dissolving poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) (7 g) and Dl (5.8 g) in 50 wt% aqueous acetic acid. (87.2 g). The CEL layer was spin-coated onto a photoresist, RI-7000P (Hitachi Chemical Co.), and baked at 80T for 20 minutes. Exposure was performed with an in-house i-line reduction projection aligner. The resist was developed in a 2. 38 wt% tetramethylammonium hydroxide aqueous solution. The film thickness was measured with an Alpha-step 200 (Tencor)... 

Poly[(p-butoxyphenyl)phenylsilane] (PBPPS) has been employed as an emissive layer of an organic EL device.95 PBPPS was spin coated onto an uniaxially oriented poly(diethylsilane) (PDES) ultrathin film. Polarized NUV-EL was observed and the polarization direction was found to be identical with the drawing direction of the friction-transfer process for the PDES film, indicating that PBPPS in the emissive layer was aligned parallel to the uniaxial orientation of PDES. 

Sekkat et al. 93 have investigated the photobehavior under polarized light of spin-coated films obtained from a hairy-rod poly(L-glutamate) with azobenzene in the side chains (Scheme 11, compound XIX). It is known 96,971 that, in the presence of a linearly polarized pump light beam, azo molecules experience a cycle of photoisomerization reactions and align themselves perpendicularly to the pump beam polarization direction. For the above polypeptide it was shown that, in the trans cis photoisomerization cycle, the created cis state is aligned perpendicularly to the polarization of the pump beam. 95 ... 

Poly(amic acids) were prepared by the ambient temperature condensation of 1,2,3,4-cyclobutane tetracarboxylic dianhydride with selected aromatic diamines. When the poly(amic acids) and liquid crystal alignment agents y-butyrolactone and A-methyl-pyrrolidone were spin-coated and cured onto an inert surface, the polyimide was effective as a liquid crystal aligner. 

The liquid crystallinity of poly(3-alkylthiophene) has been pointed out [121]. Enhancement of crystallinity by molecular alignment in a liquid crystal phase is prominent in poly(2,5-bis(3-alkylthiophen-2-yl)thieno[3,2-b] thiophene) exhibiting a lamellar mesophase. When a thin film of the polymer fabricated by the spin-coating method is annealed at 100 °C, domain size remarkably extends from several tens of nanometers to a several micrometers, maintaining molecular alignment within domains because of the thermal motion of the polymer chains. The hole mobility of the thin film transistors based on this polymer reached 0.7 cm2 V-1 s 1 [122].
