Poly(para-phenylene). Poly(pam-phenylene) (PPP) can be synthesized by both direct (79) and indirect methods (80). A comprehensive review of these synthetic routes has been presented by Schluter (81). [Pg.370]

Polymeric resins such as poly(acrylamide-acrylic acid) [24,25] [cationic resin, pAM-AA], poly(acrylic acid-diallylethylamine-HCl) [20] [amphoteric resin, pAA-DAEA-HCl], and poly(acrylamide-acrylic acid-di-allylamine-HCl [26] [amphoteric resin. pAM-AA-DAA-HCl] and poly(acrylamide-acrylic acid-diallylethylam-ine-HCl) [26] [amphoteric resin, pAM-AA-DAEA-HCl] were also used in water treatment. [Pg.119]

Anionic polyacrylamide was prepared by gamma radiation-initiated copolymerization of acrylamid with sodium acrylate in aqueous solution at optimum conditions for the copolymerization [17]. The copolymerization process produces water-soluble poly (acrylamide-sodium acrylate [pAM-AANa] of high molecular weight [17,54]. [Pg.120]

Poly(acrylamide-diallylethylamine-HCl) (cationic polyacrylamide pAM-HCl) was prepared by gamma radiation-initiated copolymerization of acrylamide with di-allylethylamine-HCI in aqueous solution at the optimum composition for copolymerization of acrylamide with diallylamine derivatives [61]. [Pg.120]

In previous works [18-20,23,102] water-soluble polymers such as polyacrylamide (pAM), polysodium acrylate (pAA Na), poly(acrylamide-sodium acrylate) (pAM-AA Na), poly(acrylamide-diallyethylamine-hy-drochloride) (pAM-DAEA-HCl), and poly(acrylamide-sodium acrylate-diallyethylamine-hydrochloride) (pAM-AANa-DAEA-HCl) were used in the recovery of cations and some radioactive isotopes from aqueous solutions. It was found that the floe is formed between the added polymer and ions of the solution in the flocculation process with the formation of a crosslinked structure. The formed cross-linked structure is characterized by [103-105] ... [Pg.128]

Hayama et al.132 discussed the catalytic effects of silver ion-polyacrylic add systems toward the hydrolyses of 2,4-dinitrophenylvinylacetate 84 (DNPVA) by using the weak nudeophilicity of carboxylic groups and the change-transfer interactions between olefinie esters and silver ions133Metal complexes of basic polyelectrolytes are also stimulating as esterase models. Hatano etal. 34, 13S) reported that some copper(II)-poly-L-lysine complexes were active for the hydrolyses of amino acid esters, such as D- and L-phenylalanine methyl ester 85 (PAM). They... [Pg.167]

These thiohydroxamic esters have seen use in grafting of PAN onto PE,iM of PS, PAM and I MPAM onto cellulose127128 and of PS, PMMA, PVP and PAM onto poly(arylene ether sulfone).12 7 The process involves derivitization of a parent carboxy functional polymer to form the thiohydoxamic ester 82 (R=polvmcr) which then behaves as a polymeric transfer agent and/or radical generator. [Pg.309]

Tomalia et al. reported that the surface amines of PAM AM dendrimer can successfully react with methyl esters of other PAMAM dendrimers to afford core-shell tecto-(dendrimer) molecules [65]. Furthermore, they also reported the synthesis of rod-shaped cylindrical dendronized polymers from poly(ethyleneimine) cores without any crosslinking, albeit with the use of excess reagents [58]. These reports lead us to propose a new approach toward hybridized dendrimers and polymers (path C, Figure 15.3). As shown in Scheme 12,... [Pg.378]

There have been many studies of hydrophobic crosslinking. For example, Flynn40 produced a series of poly (acrylamides) (PAM) and recorded the low shear rate viscosity as a function of the chain overlap parameter. This was performed for a range of molecular weights and concentrations. This procedure was then repeated with the same polymer backbone but with the addition of differing concentrations of alkyl side chains which give rise to hydrophobic association (HPAM). A comparison between hydrophobe and non-hydrophobe polymers is shown in Figure 5.30. [Pg.208]

Commodity Chain-Growth Polymers. Two of the largest commodity wafer-soluble polymers are poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and polyacrylamide (PAM). They are prepared by the free-radical initiation of vinyl monomers, a chain-growth polymerization technique. [Pg.1737]
