For each Bragg reflection, the raw data normally consist of the Miller indices (A,k,l), the integrated intensity I(hkl) and its standard deviation [o(/)], and the direction in which the diffracted beam traveled. The conversion ofI(hkl) to F(hkt ) involves the application of corrections for X-ray background intensity, Lorentz and polarization factors, absorption effects, and radiation damage (see Equation 4). The absorption correction is complicated bv the glass from the capillary and the liquid from mother liquor that the X-ray beam encounters. Therefore an experimental measure of the variations in this correction is usually made (36). This process of obtaining values of F(hkl) is known as data reduction. [Pg.30]

Thus, potential application of the ISA complexes for optical data storage has also been demonstrated. Photoreorientation of the induced optical structures in the complexes has been successfully achieved. Well-defined optical patterns were obtained when a second irradiation was applied through a standard photomask (Fig. 2.12c,d). Induction of optical phase gratings in films of the azobenzene-containing ISA complexes was also observed. A diffraction efficiency (DE) of approximately 7% was obtained on 100-nm thick films (calculated value of An that corresponds to this efficiency is 0.54) of the EO-FCigD complex after irradiation with two circularly polarized interfering beams of an Ar laser. [Pg.67]
