PMMA-based Montmorillonite Nanocomposites by Soap-free Emulsion Polymerization

PMMA-based Montmorillonite Nanocomposites by Soap-free Emulsion Polymerization [Pg.78]

Ever since PMMA was invented, its copolymers and composites have frequently been investigated by polymer researchers in order to expand their properties and applications. Notably, PMMA nanocomposites with a variety of nanoscale dispersive phases often exhibit unusual physical and chemical properties that are dramatically different from those of conventional composites. The nanoscale dispersive phases that have been used for PMMA nanocomposites in the literature include nanoparticles (TiOa, ZnO, Si02, F3O4, etc.), single- and multi-walled carbon nanotubes, clays [Pg.78]

Although the conventional processing methods such as extrusion, injection and thermoforming have often been used to manufacture MMT-PMMA nanocomposites, the dispersion of organified MMT into the PMMA matrix on the nanoscale is still a major concern to polymer researchers. To improve the dispersion of MMT, the emulsion polymerization of MMA in the [Pg.79]
