Platinum polyamines synthesis

A further consideration involves the absence or presence of bridging carbonyls which would result in the platinum existing in in octahedral geometry. This possibility does not exist for the synthesis of platinum polyamines where the platinum complex exists as a square planar structure. 

The synthesis of palladium polyamines (2) is a straightforward extension of our previous work involving the synthesis of the analogous platinum polyamines ( 6,7). The geometrical structure of the units about the palladium atom is believed to be as depicted in 2 where the like units are cis to one another. This is supported by the trans effect (8) discussed in the previous paper and by spectroscopic measurements cited in the following paragraphs. 

We recently reported the synthesis of polymeric platinum II derivatives of cis-dichlorodiamineplatinum II, cis-DDP (2 1,2). These polyamines (2) exhibit good inhibition towards a wide range of tumor cells including L929, WISH and HeLa cell lines with good cell differentiation. Some extend the life of (induced) terminally ill cancerous mice by 50%. Further the polyamines exhibit activity towards virus at concentration levels where the cells are unaffected. Recent biological studies are aimed at evaluation of certain polyamines on inhibiting select tumors and viruses for specific disease control. 

The previous paper describes the synthesis of platinum II polyureas and polythioureas Here we report the synthesis of palladium (II) polyamines (J ) which may be considered analogs of cis-dichlorodiamlneplatinum(II) cis-DDP (2), and the related platinum II polyamines (3).
