Allyl Complexes. Allyl complexes of thorium have been known since the 1960s and are usually stabilized by cyclopentadienyl ligands. AEyl complexes can be accessed via the interaction of a thorium haUde and an aHyl grignard. This synthetic method was utilized to obtain a rare example of a naked aHyl complex, Th(Tj -C2H )4 [144564-74-9] which decomposes at 0°C. This complex, when supported on dehydroxylated y-alumina, is an outstanding heterogeneous catalyst for arene hydrogenation and rivals the most active platinum metal catalysts in activity (17,18). [Pg.43]

Salts of neodecanoic acid have been used in the preparation of supported catalysts, such as silver neodecanoate for the preparation of ethylene oxide catalysts (119), and the nickel soap in the preparation of a hydrogenation catalyst (120). Metal neodecanoates, such as magnesium, lead, calcium, and zinc, are used to improve the adherence of plasticized poly(vinyl butyral) sheet to safety glass in car windshields (121). Platinum complexes using neodecanoic acid have been studied for antitumor activity (122). Neodecanoic acid and its esters are used in cosmetics as emoUients, emulsifiers, and solubilizers (77,123,124). Zinc or copper salts of neoacids are used as preservatives for wood (125). [Pg.106]

In 1971, a short communication was published [54] by Kumada and co-workers reporting the formation of di- and polysilanes from dihydrosilanes by the action of a platinum complex. Also the Wilkinson catalyst (Ph3P)3RhCl promotes hydrosilation. If no alkenes are present, formation of chain silanes occurs. A thorough analysis of the product distribution shows a high preference for polymers (without a catalyst, disproportionation reactions of the silanes prevail). Cross experiments indicate the formation of a silylene complex as intermediate and in solution, free silylenes could also be trapped by Et3SiH [55, 56],... [Pg.30]

Pyridine complexes of Pd- and Pt-pincer ligands are also suitable substrates for olefin metathesis [116]. The first-generation catalyst 9 efficiently mediates the RCM of diallylphosphines and diallyl sulfide when the heteroatom is com-plexed by a cationic [C5H5(NO)(PPh3)Re] moiety [117]. This principle has been exploited in the same study for tungsten, rhodium, and platinum complexes. [Pg.259]

The phosphine-based platinum(O) catalysts do not catalyze the diboration of alkenes because of the high coordination ability of phosphine over the alkene double bond, but platinum(O) complexes without a phosphine ligand such as Pt(dba)2 [128] and Pt(cod)2 [129] are an excellent catalyst allowing the alkene insertion into the B-Pt bond under mild conditions (Scheme 1-30). The diboration of aliphatic and aromatic terminal alkenes takes place smoothly at 50°C or even at room temperature. The reaction is significantly slow for disubstituted alkenes and cyclic alkenes, but cyclic alkenes having an internal strain afford ds-diboration products in high... [Pg.28]

The stereoselective catalyzed addition of water or methanol to dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate (DMAD) was reported to yield oxalacetic acid dimethylester or dimethyl methoxyfumarate. The catalyst precursor cis-[Pd(PMe2Ph)2(solvent)2] [BFJj was prepared from ds-[PdCl2(PMe2Ph)2] and AgBp4 (Eq. 6.54). The analogous platinum complex was not effective, however [99]. [Pg.203]

The discussion of the activation of bonds containing a group 15 element is continued in chapter five. D.K. Wicht and D.S. Glueck discuss the addition of phosphines, R2P-H, phosphites, (R0)2P(=0)H, and phosphine oxides R2P(=0)H to unsaturated substrates. Although the addition of P-H bonds can be sometimes achieved directly, the transition metal-catalyzed reaction is usually faster and may proceed with a different stereochemistry. As in hydrosilylations, palladium and platinum complexes are frequently employed as catalyst precursors for P-H additions to unsaturated hydrocarbons, but (chiral) lanthanide complexes were used with great success for the (enantioselective) addition to heteropolar double bond systems, such as aldehydes and imines whereby pharmaceutically valuable a-hydroxy or a-amino phosphonates were obtained efficiently. [Pg.289]
