Plate inclination

The rise or fall of liquid in a capillary tube or between plates inclined at a small angle. [Pg.4]

Separation occurs at approximately Re 4 for the outward flow. Fig. 5.3 Nondimensional velocity distribution for the Jeffery-Hamel flow between two plates inclined at a = 10°. With the so called louvre type electrodes, is the electrode proper carried by two iron bars which at the same time conduct the current welded to the bars on both sides are iron plates inclined at a certain angle with respect to the vertical line and arranged to form a sort of shutter or louvre (design Casah). The gas bubbles, after being evolved, rise on the individual plates and slide along the inclined lower surface of the plates lying immediately above into the inner space of the electrode wherefrom they then rise to the electrolyte surface into a small bell which is formed by the two top louvre plates (see Fig. 64). In the... [Pg.209]

The above analysis of condensation on a vertical plate can be easily extended to condensation on an inclined plate. Consider a plate inclined at an angle, 0, with respect to the gravity vector as shown in Fig. 11.10. [Pg.566]

Other variants are the rise between two parallel plane surfaces of glass, and the so-called hyperbola method, which measures the rise between two vertical plates inclined at a small angle. If the parallel plates are at a distance b apart, the radius of curvature is infinite in one direction and b in the other. The height of rise is therefore (neglecting any deviation of the meniscus from a... [Pg.371]

The hyperbola method has two vertical plates inclined at a small angle radians to each other, so that their distance apart increases with increasing... [Pg.371]

Tilted-Plate Clarifiers Lamella or tilted-plate separators have achieved increased use for clarification. They contain a multiplicity of plates inclined at 45 to 60° from the horizontal. Various feed methods are employed so that the influent passes into each inclined channel at about one-third of the vertical height from the bottom. This results in the solids having to settle only a short distance in each channel before sliding down the base to the collection zone beneath the plates. The clarified liquid passes in the opposite direction beneath the ceiling of each channel to the overflow connection. [Pg.1505]

The hat-like potential model evolved from consideration of rotation of a permanent dipole between two perfectly reflecting plates inclined one with respect to the other through the angle 2f. The history of the hat potential is described in detail in the context of dielectric relaxation in liquids in GT2. [Pg.475]

The Nusselt analysis for a vertical plate may be adapted to an inclined upward-facing plate (inclined at an angle a with respect to the horizontal) by replacing g in Eq. 14.10 with (g sin a). This simple substitution is valid except for plates that are near horizontal (i.e., a <... [Pg.951]

Geller et al. 28) conducted a series of laboratory experiments in which water was injected at a constant flow rate (fixim 0.25 to 20 mL/hr) into fracture models (smooth, parallel glass plates separated by 350 pm, and textured glass plates, inclined 60 from the horizontal) through a single capillary tube that terminated at the entrance to the fracture model. (In these experiments, we also investigated file effects of the size and material of the capillary tube and the type of contact between the capillary tube and fracture model.) Liquid pressure was monitored upstream of the entrance to the fracture. [Pg.203]

Viscometric measurements suggest that an aqueous carbopol solution behaves as a Bingham plastic fluid with yield stress of 1.96 Pa and plastic viscosity 3.80 Pa s. The liquid flows down a plate inclined at an angle 6 to the horizontal. Derive an expression for the volumetric flow rate per unit width of the plate as a function of the system variables. Then, show that the following experimental results for 0 = 5° are consistent with the theoretical predictions. [Pg.411]

The size of the settlement basin is sometimes reduced by employing a series of internally mounted plates inclined at about 60° to the horizontal. In a similar manner to the lamella separator (see Section 1.1.2.3), the effective settling area is increased to allow sedimenting solids to slide down the plates and into the collecting well. Other variants include the vertical flow clarifier, the blanket clarifier and the circular clarifier the latter is similar in form to a conventional circular thickener but of a much lighter construction. [Pg.8]

The results here presented are valid for particles falling freely in air. The settling rate of particles smaller than 10 m in diameter is insignificant (order of a few cm/ sec). Such particles cannot fall vertically they are only able to come into contact with the surface as a result of inertial, diffusion, and Brownian motion. In this case, not only vertical surfaces, but also plates inclined at ce > 90° may become dusty. [Pg.163]

Where the fill is unevenly distributed, it may be necessary to collect from a number of different regions of the container. Using the inverted pyramid as a base a set of single or multiple level plates inclined can be fitted, each having ribs that sit on the hopper wall or on each other. Fig. 10. [Pg.613]
