The propylene equivalent of polyethylene is polypropylene. About 50% of the chemical use of propylene is directed to that use. Other major applications are the manufacture of propylene oxide, isopropyl alcohol, cumene, 0X0 alcohols, acrylic acids, and acrylonitrile. The consumer products you are familiar with show up everywhere carpets, rope, clothing, plastics in automobiles, appliances, toys, rubbing alcohol, paints, and epoxy glue. 

In the plastics recovery section, the polypropylene is separated from other plastics and products such as PVC separators, ebonite cases, labels, rope handles, etc., via a series of classifiers and hydro-cyclones. The polypropylene pieces or chips are cleaned, washed, and separated from any remaining paste and dust. Once the material has been shredded to smaller fragments, the plastic is a valuable by-product of battery recycling. Plastic cleaning and processing methods are so effective that heavy metal contamination in the final polypropylene product is very low. The final product can be used in household goods such as washing machines, vacuum cleaners, and dishwasher parts, or in products for the automotive industry [5]. 

Of course, crystalline polymers constitute many of the plastics and fibers of commerce. Polyethylene is used in films to cover dry-cleaned clothes, and as water and solvent containers (e.g., wash bottles). Polypropylene makes a highly extensible rope, finding particularly important applications in the marine industry. Polyamides (nylons) and polyesters are used as both plastics and fibers. Their use in clothing is world famous. Cellulose, mentioned above, is used in clothing in both its native state (cotton) and its regenerated state (rayon). The film is called cellophane. 

Black twisted nylon and polypropylene ropes used to rig and retrieve test platforms were unaffected. Grappling lines attached to platforms, made of steel wire jacketed with extruded high-density PE, prevented corrosion of the steel. PE is also used to protect submerged telephone cables. Plastic primers such as epoxy are used to prevent antifouling paints from corroding metals. These paints generally use cuprous oxide to prevent the growth of barnacles, but at the same time can be harmful to metal. 

Polypropylene is the lightest nonfoamed plastic, with a density of 0.91 g/mL. It is more rigid than polyethylene and has exceptional flex life. Polypropylene has found use in a wide variety of products which include refrigerators, radios, and TVs as well as monofilaments, ropes, and pipes.
