The partially purified sterol-glucosyl transferase has a pH optimum of 8.5-9 and is very specific for UDP-Glc (Forsee et al., 1974). Cholesterol and stig-masterol were glucosylated 66 and 58% as well as sitosterol, but these differences may be because of differences in the micellar forms of the sterol. In Bush and Grunwald s (1974) experiments, cholesterol, campsterol, stigmas-terol, and sitosterol were equally well used as substrate, and this is consistent with analytical data from intact plants (Table IV). [Pg.519]
