Plant operation systems, properties

Although orthophosphates are themselves passivating, anodic inhibitors (and also cathodic inhibitors, forming a calcium phosphate barrier film), the film strength is weak, even in simple HW systems and they are not used for this purpose. Nevertheless, despite the thermal instability of sodium hexametaphosphate and other polyphosphates, phosphates in general have several important properties that make them useful in boiler plant operations. These properties include ... [Pg.400]

A problem arises, e.g., when model (laboratory, bench-scale) measurements are to be performed in a so-called cold model , but the industrial plant operates at high temperatures (petrochemicals T = 800 - 1000 °C). How can we ascertain that the laboratory model system behaves hydrodynamically similarly to that in the industrial plant Here, different temperature dependence of physical properties (viscosity, density) may cause problems. [Pg.47]

Unsteady-state or dynamic simulation accounts for process transients, from an initial state to a final state. Dynamic models for complex chemical processes typically consist of large systems of ordinary differential equations and algebraic equations. Therefore, dynamic process simulation is computationally intensive. Dynamic simulators typically contain three units (i) thermodynamic and physical properties packages, (ii) unit operation models, (hi) numerical solvers. Dynamic simulation is used for batch process design and development, control strategy development, control system check-out, the optimization of plant operations, process reliability/availability/safety studies, process improvement, process start-up and shutdown. There are countless dynamic process simulators available on the market. One of them has the commercial name Hysis [2.3]. [Pg.25]

The method used will vary according to characteristics of the plant site and properties of agiven system. Energy cost from carbon adsorption ranges from 5 to 25 % of the total operating cost. If carbon is thermally regenerated, equipment cost increases since a furnace, after burner, and a scrubber are needed. If carbon is not regenerated, a means of carbon disposal is needed. [Pg.653]

Of the neutrons formed, most are released virtually immediately, but a small proportion which depend on the fissionable isotopic composition of the fuel (U235 0-7%, Pu239 0-4%), are released at an appreciable time after fission—up to a minute or so. It is this special property of delayed fission neutron release that enables the plant to be controlled by manual or relatively straightforward automatic operating systems with control rods that move relatively slowly. [Pg.3]

The potential of endangering by a technical installation constitutes the totality of toss of human life and damage to property in the environment of said plant or system, which may be foreseen under certain clearly defined circumstances and conditions. These defined conditions relate to normal operation of the technical installation, to impaired operational conditions influenced by hypothetical incident conditions, as well as to the conditions prevalent after utilization of said technical plant. [Pg.8]
