Planning assisted living

Ivy Acres, originating with the black Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, will be a 32 million project on 48 acres (19.4 ha). The project, which has been in the planning stages for a decade, will be the first minority-owned and sponsored retirement facility among 900 retirement facilities in the United States. It will be a continuous care community, with 188 independent living units, 40 assisted living apartments, and 20 skilled nursing beds. Thus, this will not be a retirement community as defined in this chapter. [Pg.1842]

Employers, at a minimum, must have an emergency action plan that will facilitate the prompt evacuation of employees when there is an unwanted release of a highly hazardous chemical. This means that the employer s plan will be activated by an alarm system to alert employees when to evacuate, and that employees who are physically impaired will have the necessary support and assistance to get them to a safe zone. The intent of these requirements is to alert and move employees quickly to a safe zone. The use of process control centers or buildings as safe areas is discouraged. Recent catastrophes indicate that lives are lost in these structures because of their location and because they are not necessarily designed to withstand over-pressures from shock waves resulting from explosions in the process area. [Pg.243]

RISK FOR INJURY Some patients with a viral infection are acutely ill. Others may experience fatigue, lethargy, dizziness, or weakness as an adverse reaction to the antiviral agent. The nurse monitors these patients carefully. Call lights are placed in a convenient place for the patient and are answered promptly by the nurse. If fatigue, dizziness, or weakness is present, the patient may require assistance with ambulation or activities of daily living. The nurse plans activities so as to provide adequate rest periods. [Pg.126]

CDC recommends that states develop a plan to find children who may be exposed to lead and have their blood tested for lead. They make basic recommendations for states to follow. These include testing children at ages 1 and 2. Children who are 3 to 6 years old should be tested if they have never been tested for lead before and they receive services from public assistance programs for the poor such as Medicaid or the Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) if they live in a building or frequently visit a house built before 1950 if they visit a home (house or apartment) built before 1978 that has been recently remodeled or if they have a brother, sister, or playmate who has had lead poisoning. [Pg.30]

One further idea that we are playing with is to find a first customer interested in the idea. We will get assistance from an architect and a construction engineer to work out the plans. They will have to develop ideas on living outside on how to handle sun, cold, wind and rain. To entice the customer we may need to provide some guarantees or co-financing. In return we expect him to share experiences with us and further customers. [Pg.162]

Special plans must be made to assist and care for persons who are medically disabled or handicapped. If you or someone you know lives within ten miles of a nuclear facility, please notify and register with your local emergency management agency. Adequate a.s istance will be provided during an emergency. [Pg.210]

If the plan has a definite planned life, there should be a thorough final review. This can look at the successful or unsuccessful aspects, and record the reasorts why the plan did or did not live up to expectatiorrs. This will assist in designing the extension of the plan or of new plans perhaps the programmes were unsirited to the goals desired. [Pg.553]

The most used parameter to measure the social impact or severity of an earthquake is fatalities, but in terms of social consequences, it is the survivors that need the humanitarian assistance in the short term and committed recovery and reconstruction plans to rebuild shattered lives in the long term. After the initial relief phase, the fate of those affected is the responsibility of those in governance, e.g., the establishment of the Canterbury Recovery Authority (CERA) after the Canterbury Sequence in 2010-2011. Possible indicators to help measure and monitor longterm social and economic recovery are highlighted in the section Recording Socio-economic Consequences. ... [Pg.887]
