Low deasity polyethyleae foam products (thin sheets, planks, rounds, tubes) ia the range of 32—160 kg/m (2—10 lbs/ft ) have beea prepared by an extmsion technique usiag various gaseous fluorocarboa blowiag ageats (100,101). The techniques are similar to those described earlier for produciag extmded polystyreae foam planks and foam sheets. [Pg.406]

The attraction of rubbed amber and some other effects of electricity were known in ancient times. We know from finding nails in an old wreck that the Romans knew about contact corrosion combined with electric current flow. A skin of lead as a protection against boring worms covered the wooden planks of the ship and was nailed down with copper nails. Galvanic coupIe.s formed between the lead and the copper nails and the less noble lead sheets around the nails corroded in the seawater and fell off. The shipbuilders discovered a simple solution and covered the heads of the copper nails with lead as well. Galvanic current flow between the two metals was eliminated and corrosion was prevented (26). [Pg.10]

The two sugar-phosphate backbones are highlighted by orange ribbons. The base pairs that are connected to the backbone are represented as blue planks. Figure 7.1 Schematic drawing of B-DNA. The sugar-phosphate backbone is represented by connected circles in color and the base pairs as blue planks. Four base pairs are shown from the top of the helix to highlight how the grooves are formed due to the asymmetric connections. The position of the helix axis is marked by a cross. [Pg.123]

A suitable apparatus for jacking the reel off the floor and holding it so that it can turn on its axis is desirable. Tension should be maintained on the wire rope as it leaves the reel by restricting the reel movement. A timber or plank provides satisfactory brake action. When winding the wire rope onto the drum, sufficient tension should be kept on the rope to assure tight winding. [Pg.584]
