Plague incubation

Bubonic Plague Incubation period is from two to ten days. Malaise, high fever, and tender lymph nodes (buboes inflammatory swelling of one or more lymph nodes, usually in the groin the confluent mass of nodes usually suppurates and drains pus) may progress spontaneously to the septicemic form, with spread to the central nervous system (CNS), lungs, and elsewhere. [Pg.152]

The incubation period of primary pneumonic plague is 1 to 3 days and is characterized by development of an overwhelming pneumonia with high fever, cough, bloody sputum, and chills. For plague pneumonia patients, the death rate is over 50%. [Pg.65]

The pneumonic form of plague is usually caused by inhalation of the organism but may spread to the lungs from septicemia. The incubation period of pneumonic plague is only 1 to 6 days (depending on the amount of inhaled bacteria)... [Pg.70]

The overall incubation period for plague is between 1 and 8 days following exposure. Progression of bubonic or pneumonic plague may result in septicaemic plague. [Pg.164]
