Piston Cylinder (Extrusion). Pressure-driven piston cylinder capillary viscometers, ie, extmsion rheometers (Fig. 25), are used primarily to measure the melt viscosity of polymers and other viscous materials (21,47,49,50). A reservoir is connected to a capillary tube, and molten polymer or another material is extmded through the capillary by means of a piston to which a constant force is appHed. Viscosity can be determined from the volumetric flow rate and the pressure drop along the capillary. The basic method and test conditions for a number of thermoplastics are described in ASTM D1238. Melt viscoelasticity can influence the results (160). [Pg.182]

A flow system has been designed to pump fluid through the flow cell. A piston-cylinder arrangement is used as a pump-like" device by... [Pg.549]

Crystallization of ECSCs was isothermally carried out under high pressure using a piston cylinder high pressure cell with diamond window (PCDW) originally made by us. The formation of isolated ECSCs was confirmed by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM). [Pg.142]

Friction force measurements at Skega AB were carried out by the following procedure. A piston/cylinder type of test ring was used. The O-ring being tested was greatly stretched over the piston and fitted into the seal groove. The cylinder was carefully wiped and dried with a clean cloth before the piston was put into the... [Pg.233]

The reduction of the vehicle industry s share is mainly a result of the omission of engine components with large added value (e.g., crankshafts, pistons, cylinder heads and bearings). [Pg.374]
