Pipes cleaning

Line Wrapping the technique of wrapping a pipeline over the pipeline trench applied only to welded steel pipelines. It is carried out by a linewrapping machine which travels along the pipe, cleaning it, priming it. 

Even carefully built pipelines have been found to contain up to 10 tons of waste materials, mostly iron rust, sand, mud, and welding rods. Even shoes, gloves, and bottles have been removed from pipes. Cleaning can generally be achieved by pumping suitable solvents in pigging operations. 

Many varieties of pigs are available, some of which are quite sophisticated. However, very simple pigs are sufficient for most pipe cleaning operations in the explosives industry.

The parallel-passage reactor (PPR) and the lateral-flow reactor (LF ) are fixed-bed reactors suitable for the treatment of large volumes of gas at relatively low pressure, as are typical for end-of-pipe cleaning of combustion gases and other stack gases. In such applications, a low pressure drop, e.g., below 10 mbar, is generally required, and this demand can be met by these reactors. In addition, resistance to fouling by dust particles in the gas is important in a number of cases, and the PPR is particularly suitable for such cases.

There are no problems with flow, pumping, pipe cleaning, etc. At temperatures between 40 C and 45 C, sulphonic acids can be handled with ordinary pumps (centrifugal, positive displacement) in pipes of normal diameters and lengths. The flow will always be laminar at the velocities applied (0.5 m/s -1.0 m/s) and pressure drops can be calculated from the Poiseuille equation ... 

PREPARE THE SURFACE. Before you slide sleeve-like couplings over the joints between the new and old pipes, clean all sections thoroughly. Use a wire brush to remove any rust from the old pipe, and do the same with the new pipe, until both sparkle. A little preparation goes a long way toward a successful repair.
