Vitha, M. F. Carr, P. W. A Laboratory Exercise in Statistical Analysis of Data, /. Chem. Educ. 1997, 74, 998-1000. Students determine the average weight of vitamin E pills using several different methods (one at a time, in sets of ten pills, and in sets of 100 pills). The data collected by the class are pooled together, plotted as histograms, and compared with results predicted by a normal distribution. The histograms and standard deviations for the pooled data also show the effect of sample size on the standard error of the mean. [Pg.98]

For this to be constant, if L/dp doubles then must become one half, or u to be (1/2)° = 0.71 over the smaller pellets. Since the reaction rate is the same and the catalyst volumes are the same, the number of moles converted are the same. This constant number of moles will result in the 71% flow over the smaller pellets in 1/0.71 = 1.41 times larger reactant decrease than over the larger pills. The flow volumes are relative, not absolute values. [Pg.148]

C03-0080. A particular oral contraceptive contains 0.035 mg ethynyl estradiol in each pill. The formula of this compound is C20 H24 O2. How many moles of ethynyl estradiol are there in one pill How many molecules is this How many carbon atoms are in a 0.035-mg sample of ethynyl estradiol What mass of carbon is this ... [Pg.189]

Under the influence of pectin-vitamin pills the quantity of micronucleus cells of mouth cavity mucous decreased from 0.060+0.007% to 0.041+0.007%. This fact shows minimizing of genotoxic activity. Girls have had a decline from 0.05% to 0.04%, and boys - from 0.064 to 0.05%. Similar changes, and even more pronounced, have occurred in leukocytes of the peripheral blood. (Table 6)... [Pg.199]

Another source pressure cooked the peyote in acidic water 15 minutes at 15 lbs. and poured off the liquid. This process was repeated 5 more times and the combined water extracts evaporated slowly to a tar which is cooled until able to be formed into small pills. The pills are dipped in Salol (phenyl salicylate), which has been liquified by heating, and allowed to dry. This forms an enteric coating which is said to allow ingestion without nausea. Others... [Pg.91]

Our second interesting case of chirality is an example of advertising trumping science. In this case, the molecule in question is known generically as esomeprazole and is marketed in the United States as Nexium, widely advertised as the purple pill. The story begins with a closely related molecule, omeprazole, marketed as Losec or Prilosec. [Pg.47]

The thiamine molecule is the stuff that is in your multivitamin pills. The active form in human physiology is thiamine pyrophosphate, in which a pyrophosphate group is added from ATP. [Pg.200]

There is still debate about the side-effects of the pill. The general consensus is that, although the risk of thrombosis and breast cancer is increased, the risk of endometrial or ovarian cancer is decreased. [Pg.447]
