Phosphorous trifluoride

Phosphorous Trifluoride, PF3, mw 87.98 colorless gas, fr p —151.5°, bp —101.8°, d of gas 3 91g/liter d of liq at bp l,6g/ml almost insol in w dissolves readily in alkaline solas much more poisonous than PFg P0Fjj. Excessive exposure may produce symptoms similar to those of CO. It can be prepd by fluorinating PCI3 with CaFa or with AsFg or SbFa... [Pg.527]

To illustrate the remarkable improvements in basis-set convergence that are obtained through the use of London orbitals, we have in Figure 1 plotted the isotropic magnetizability for the phosphorous trifluoride molecule (PF3) calculated with and without the use of London orbitals [14]. In these... [Pg.168]

Monomeric borane has a very short lifetime, but it is a strong Lewis acid and may be stabilized by forming complexes with Lewis bases. BH3 resembles a transition metal atom in a low oxidation state, in the sense that it can form complexes with, say, carbon monoxide and phosphorous trifluoride having negligible basicity. It has been suggested that the complexes of BH3 with... [Pg.148]

PF3 forms a c(4x2) structure on Cu(lOO) at a coverage of 0.25 ML. The surface phonon dispersion was investigated by HATOF and is reported in Fig. 21 for isolated molecules as well as for the ordered structure. The dispersion shows evidence of a low frequency mode, assigned to the frustrated translation of the adsorbate (FTx), and of the RW. For the ordered structure (see panel b) the modes RWi at 8.2 meV and RW2 at 10.3 meV, are assigned to the RW and to its backfolded branch. The result of a LDM calculation, for which the surface corner atoms (see inset) were replaced by heavier particles of mass m=mcu+mpF3 is shown in panel c). It demonstrates that the principal effect of phosphor trifluoride adsorption is mass loading [99Bra]. [Pg.377]
