Materials. Beaters (3 weeks to 1 year) and bedlamer (1-4 years) harp seals (Phoca groenlandica) hunted in the coastal regions of Newfoundland/Labrador during May-July were bled and skinned, the blubber fat was removed, and the carcasses were eviscerated. Whole seal carcasses, without head and flippers, were placed inside plastic bags and stored in containers with ice for up to 3 days.
