A more recent strategy is the use of entry inhibitors, which seek to stop the HIV from entering the CD4 cell. There are two such drugs enfuvirtide (Fuzeon) by Roche and maraviroc (Selzentry) by Pfizer, approved by the FDA in March 2003 and August 2007, respectively.

Liver In an analysis of all Pfizer-sponsored clinical trials of maraviroc, in 2350 subjects, sporadic hepatic enzyme abnormalities were reported in 34 phase I/IIa studies of up to 28 days duration, but there was no apparent dose relationship or association with hyperbilirubinemia [144 ].
