Persian Gulf War

The exacting Hst of specification requirements for aviation gas turbine fuels and the constraints imposed by deUvering clean fuel safely from refinery to aircraft are the factors that affect the economics. Compared with other distillates such as diesel and burner fuels, kerosene jet fuels are narrow-cut specialized products, and usually command a premium price over other distillates. The prices charged for jet fuels tend to escalate with the basic price of cmde, a factor which seriously underrnined airline profits during the Persian Gulf war as cmde prices increased sharply. 

Gulf war syndrome (GWS) is the name given to a variety of psychological and physical symptoms suffered by veterans of the 1991 Persian Gulf War. The symptoms have been remarkably wide-ranging, sometimes somewhat ill-defined. These symptoms were inteipreted to reflect exposure to centrally acting anti-AChEs. 

Ethiopia, khat is also a major cash crop. In the United States, khat use is most popular among immigrants from Yemen and the East African nations of Somalia and Ethiopia. The U.S. public became more aware of this exotic drug through media reports pertaining to the United Nations mission in Somalia, where khat use is endemic, and the drug s role in the Persian Gulf War.

In the wake of the Persian Gulf War, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Colin Powell reports that the vulnerability of U.S. forces to biological attack had been one of his greatest concerns. 

Internal and external studies and assessments have highlighted the erosion of Navy readiness and capabilities for chemical and biological defense since the Persian Gulf War. The Marine Corps, on the other hand, has been more aggressive and consistent in improving both capabilities and preparedness. 

The most compelling evidence for the association between chemical exposure and CFS comes from the fact that many veterans of the Persian Gulf War in 1991 have been diagnosed with CFS following their exposures in the Persian Gulf. This subject is explored in Section 26.10.
