Permeability to Gases and Water Vapor

1 Permeability to Gases and Water Vapor Ausimont Halar  [Pg.412]

Halar fluoropolymer has low permeability to water vapor and various other gases. Water vapor permeability measured at 38°C and 90% RH was found to be 0.15 g mil/100 in 24 hrs. [Pg.412]

At an elevated surface temperature, Halar fluo-ropol mier has superior moisture vapor impermeability compared to certain other fluoropol5miers at the same conditions. 1 [Pg.412]

A number of copolymers of vinylidene chloride are used in practice. Copolymers with acrylonitrile are used in low flammability fibers (modacrylic fibers). These fibers begin to lose weight when heated at 285-308° C due to dehydrohalogenation [41] but do not ignite easily. A tercopolymer butadiene-styrene-vinylidene chloride is used in fabrics industry and in paper industry. Other copolymers include PVC/PVDC, used for fibers and for films with low permeability to gases and water vapors (barrier films), etc. [Pg.288]

Vulcanized silicone rubber is characterized by its wide temperature use range (-50 to >200°C), excellent electrical properties, and resistance to air oxidation and weathering conditions (484). Improvements in properties such as heat aging can be achieved by in situ treatment of the filler during rubber manufacture (480). Silicone rubber is also extremely permeable to gases and water vapor. The mechanical properties of silicone rubber are generally inferior to most organic (butyl)... [Pg.7607]

Barrier Material - Materials such as plastic films, sheeting, wood laminates, particle board, paper, fabrics, etc., with low permeability to gases and vapors. Used in construction as water vapor insulation, food packaging, protective clothing, etc. [Pg.521]

The water vapor permeability of this type of PE, as with all types of PE, is low. PE is permeable to gases and vapors (i.e. it lets them through) but LLDPE and HDPE are less permeable to gases and vapors than LDPE. Permeability for organic vapors is least for alcohols and then increases in the order shown from acids to aldehydes and ketones, esters, ethers, hydrocarbons and halogenated hydrocarbons. (Permeability decreases with density). [Pg.75]
