Percentage moisture

With this simplified procedure it is much easier to protect the system from atmospheric moisture, which must obviously be excluded. Modem K-F Titrators are equipped with special titration vessels which are designed to prevent the ingress of atmospheric moisture. Many also have microprocessors attached which will carry out the requisite operations automatically and will often provide a print-out of the results including the percentage moisture content. 

The percentage moisture taken up by moisture-free textiles when exposed to a standard atmosphere, e g., a temperature of 21 °C (70 °F) at a relative humidity of 65%. 

Commercially available Modem KF-Titrators are usually equipped with specifically designed titration vessels that are exclusively meant to check and prevent the contact with atmospheric moisture. Quite a few such devices are armed with microprocessors that will perform the requisite operations sequentially in a programmed manner automatically and may also dish out a print-out of the desired results including the percentage moisture content. In fact, these Modem KF-Titrators not only afford greater accuracy and precision in results but also offer much ease and convenience in routine analysis as compared to the classical techniques based on either caulometry or controlled current potentiometiy using two indicator electrodes.

Determine the percentage moisture content (z%) of the air-dry soil by oven drying overnight at 105°C. Then calculate the above as CEC x 100/(100 - z)... 

Follow the procedure described in Method 101.5 for the determination of the percentage moisture and volatile in the explosive. However, in this determination heat for 6 hours in a vacuum oven at a temperature of 55° 2°C. and a pressure (absolute) of 80mm 10mm of mercury instead of four (4) hours in an oven at 100° 5°C. and atmospheric pressure. 

Typical moisture content results for soybean samples are shown in Table Al.3.1. Three samples were prepared and each was measured three times in the same minispec analyzer. The NMR percentage moisture was found to be very reproducible (standard deviation for three measurements was typically better than 0.03) and agreement of NMR with the reference method was typically 0.15% moisture or better. 

Determine percentage moisture content (see Chapter Al). Alternatively, if sample is limited, accurately weigh 0.5 to 2 g sample into an aluminum container and dry 20 hr at 80°C. Cool in a desiccator containing recently reactivated absorbent and weigh again. Calculate moisture content as ... 

EG G Berthold has developed a microwave system primarily for the measurement of percentage moisture in foods and materials (Berthold 1992). Techniques for adapting the hardware for the measurement of food process parameters have been successful and are being explored for custom applications.

The most important factors determining the application conditions (there are others too, of course) are the percentage moisture content of the glued particles, the rate of pressing, the method of application of the glue mix to the wood particles, and the percentage of adhesive solids on wood.

As 50% of the success of wood adhesives is in its application parameters, these need to be carefully considered even an excellent wood adhesive will give very poor bonding if the correct applications parameters are not respected. Foremost about these is the wood percentage moisture content. Generally, thermosetting resins for panels are used at moisture contents of 10-12% for particleboard or similar panels and at 7-9% for plywood, with some notable exception such as tannin adhesives, which can reach 25%... 

The mean moisture contents with the three methods on 51 samples ranging from 62% to 79% moisture and taken from five varieties of sweet corn are given in Table XXXIX. Each sample mean is the average of three determinations. The average percentage moisture of all samples 70.4 with the vacuum oven, 70.0 with the Brown-Duvel tester, and 70.5 with the Steinlite tester.

Removal of water from hygroscopic polymers is a common use of vented extruders. Most polymers require less than 0.2% moisture in order to properly extrude. In some polymers, this percentage is considerably lower, e.g., PMMA < 0.1%, ABS <0.1%, CA < 0.05%, PBTB < 0.05%, and PC < 0.02%. Many polymers have an equilibrium moisture content at room temperature and 50% R. H. (relative humidity) that is considerably higher than the maximum allowable percentage moisture content for extrusion. Some values of the equilibrium moisture content of hygroscopic polymers [10] are ABS 1.5% PMMA 0.8% PBTP 0.2% PC 0.2% and PA 3%. Such poly-...

If only a single mass loss occurs, for example, when the amount of moisture in a soil or a polymer is measured, then the evaluation is simple. A mass loss of 1.5% when a sample of nylon was heated from room temperature to 130°C at 10°C min measures the percentage moisture in the nylon, assuming that the loss is due only to moisture, not to any other solvent or other volatile material.
