A detonating cord is used for simultaneous detonation of a number of explosive charges. The cord is comprised of a core (often made of Pentrit), cotton threads around a core, and a plastic coating. A detonating cord with a Pentrit core has a detonation velocity of approximately 6500 meters/second and is initiated by a blasting cap.9... [Pg.51]

Esplosivi alti (High Explosives) o Esplosivi dirompenti (Brisant Explosives). To these belong Esplosivi da guerra, such as Tritolo (TNT), Pentrite (PETN), T4 (RDX), Melinite (PA), Tetrile (Tetryl), etc and Esplosivi da mina, such as listed in Tables I III and under DINAMITI, Items a, b, c, d, e, g, h, i, j, k, 1, m, p q. Pentaerythritol tetranitrate ( nitropentaerythrite ) also has numerous trade names which are different in various countries PETN, Penthrite, Penta (English speaking countries), Pentrit, Niperyth, Nitropenta, NP (Germany), Pentryt, NP (Poland), Ten (U.S.S.R.). PETN was first obtained by the Rheinisch-Westfalische Sprengstoff A.G. in 1894 [1], by nitrating pentaerythritol. [Pg.175]

Pentaerythrit-tetranitrat, Nitropentaerythrit or Pentrit (PETN). The possibilities of using PETN in both military and civilian expls were realized by Dr A. Stettbacher as early as 1916. PETN was manufd at the Schweizerische Sprengstoff-Fabrik AG, Dottikon, by nitrating technically pure pentaerythritol (called penta and abbreviated as PE in Switzerland) with fuming nitric acid of d 1 -52g/cc (see Vol 8, P94-L R). The product was purified by crystallizing it from acet its mp was 142° and cryst d 1.77g/cc... [Pg.491]

Properties Yellow powder. Sp. gr. 2.05. M. P. about 120°. Ignites at about 250°. B. P. 444.6°. Ignites readily and therefore facilitates ignition of black powder and other ignitible mixtures. Sulfur decreases the temperature of detonation of TNB, TNT, and picric acid to a lesser degree sulfur lowers the temperature of detonation of Tetryl and Pentrite. Sulfur raises the temperature of detonation of Hexogen and increases the sensitivity of Tetryl to shock (maximum at 10 per cent sulfur). ... [Pg.142]
