C, pot temperature 125°C) prior to collection of the product. (Z)-2-Bromo-5-(trimethylsilyl)-2-penten-4-ynoic acid ethyl ester is collected (bp 105-108°C, 0.9 mm, pot temperature < 125°C) as a pale yellow oil (10.95-12.85 g, 48-56%) and is shown by capillary GC to be 87-94% pure (contaminants include bis(trimethylsilyl)butadiyne, < 2% and (E)-2-[(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]-5-(trimethylsilyl)-2-penten-4-ynoic acid ethyl ester, 6-11% Notes 11-13). [Pg.54]

S)-(-)-CITRONELLOL from geraniol. An asymmetrically catalyzed Diels-Alder reaction is used to prepare (1 R)-1,3,4-TRIMETHYL-3-C YCLOHEXENE-1 -CARBOXALDEHYDE with an (acyloxy)borane complex derived from L-(+)-tartaric acid as the catalyst. A high-yield procedure for the rearrangement of epoxides to carbonyl compounds catalyzed by METHYLALUMINUM BIS(4-BROMO-2,6-DI-tert-BUTYLPHENOXIDE) is demonstrated with a preparation of DIPHENYL-ACETALDEHYDE from stilbene oxide. A palladium/copper catalyst system is used to prepare (Z)-2-BROMO-5-(TRIMETHYLSILYL)-2-PENTEN-4-YNOIC ACID ETHYL ESTER. The coupling of vinyl and aryl halides with acetylenes is a powerful carbon-carbon bond-forming reaction, particularly valuable for the construction of such enyne systems. [Pg.147]

Myers, A. G. Dragovich, P. S. Synthesis of functionalized enynes by Pd/Cu-catalyzed coupling reactions of acetylenes with (Z)-2,3-dibromopropenoic add ethyl ester (Z)-2-bromo-5-(trimefhylsilyl)-2-penten-4-ynoic acid ethyl ester. Org. Synth. 1998, Coll. Vol. IX, 117— 120. [Pg.304]

CIC The fatty aldehydes octanal, nonanal, decanal together with the corresponding fatty acids and their ethyl esters are responsible for the characteristic fatty aldehydic flavour of the skin. (E)-2-hexenal, hexanal and (E)-2-pentenal contribute to the refreshing character, supported by the high acidity of the juice. Methyl-2-methyl bu-tanoate, methyl-3-methyl butanoate and methyl hexanoate impart a fresh, fruity note, rounded off with traces of methyl benzoate, methyl salicylate and the sweet floral note of beta-ionone and damascenone. [Pg.420]

Reactions of the conjugated aldehydes, crotonaldehyde and 4-hydroxy-2-pentenal, with a C=C—C=0 bond system, in aqueous solution with thioglycollic add, either as its sodium salt or ethyl ester, give addition across the C=C bond. The 4-hydroxy-2-pentenal adduct cyclizes to the hemiacetal. [Pg.397]

In the presence of Ni or Co catalysts, only saturated monocarboxylic acids could be obtained starting from cyclooctadiene [491] as well as from cyclododecatriene [492]. Dienes with conjugated double bonds may be converted with palladium catalysts [448, 511]. Butadiene reacts with carbon monoxide and ethanol at 70 °C in the presence of PdClg or di-benzonitrile palladium dichloride to give the ethyl ester of penten-3-oic-acid-l ... [Pg.107]

High levels of chirality transfer have been observed in ortho ester Claisen rearrangements. Treatment of (2/ ,3E)-3-penten-2-ol with ethyl orthoacetate gave the ethyl ester of (3/ ,4 )-3-methyl-4-hexenoic acid in 90% optical yield.The... [Pg.343]

Of more direct interest is the preparation of 3-ethylquinuclidine by this method (Prelog, Sogtaric and Gustak (1940)). Ethyl tetrahydropyranyl ketone (X R = tetrahydropyranyl in X to XIV) was condensed wiA ethyl brpmoacetate (XI) to give the hydroxy-acid ester (XII) which was dehydrated by potassium acid sulphate at 90° to ethyl 3-(tetrahydro-pyranyl-4)-pentenate (XIII) and this hydrogenated to tie corresponding... [Pg.456]

Perfluoro-2 (1 ethyl 1 methylpropyl)-3-methyl-l-pentene, the major hex-amer of tetrafluoroethylene, reacts with sodium methoxide to yield an ester, whereas a stable crowded ketene is formed by reaction with sodium hydroxide [2d] (equation 23)... [Pg.451]
