Pentamethylene sulfide

In 1999, Zhou and Clennan [24] reported the first examples of intrazeolite type I/ivOi reactions of organosulfides. Photo-oxidation of pentamethylene sulfide, 12, in NaMB Y in hexane slurry resulted in the formation of both the sulfoxide and sulfone. However, the sensitivity of the sulfone, I2SO2, sulfoxide, 12SO, ratio to the concentration of 12 was dramatically enhanced in the zeolite in comparison to homogeneous media. The percentage yield of the sulfoxide increased from 46% to nearly 90% in the zeolite and it remained essentially constant in... [Pg.285]

The conformational energy E(op) associated with gauche states about CH2-CH2 bonds in polyethylene sulfide) (PSE) is estimated from the RIS analysis of experimental dipole moments and their temperature coefficients corresponding to the alternating copolymer of pentamethylene sulfide and ethylene sulfide (PXS) as well as to 1,2-bis(butylthio)ethane. [Pg.127]

These methods parallel the synthesis just described for the five-membered rings. As indicated in structures (42)—(49), standard reactions of aliphatic chemistry can be extended to the preparation of piperidines, tetrahydropyrans and pentamethylene sulfides (44 Z = N, O, S) glutarimides, glutaric anhydrides and glutaric thioanhydrides (46 Z = N, O, S) and 8-lactams, 8-lactones and 8-thiolactones (49 Z = N, O, S). [Pg.521]

Epoxidations were also performed on ketones as described in Step 2 using pentamethylene sulfide (0.0666 mol) as the reaction solvent. [Pg.487]

Substrates oxidized are thioanisole, diphenyl sulfide, tetrahydro-thiophene, pentamethylene sulfide. Conversion of thioether is greater than 90 %, with 95 % or better selectivities to the sulfoxide. The kinetics of the catalytic reaction is consistent with the following mechanism ... [Pg.372]
