Is a wrong-way stagger at a dual carriageway pelican crossing unsafe ... 

There was insufficient evidence from this study to determine whether puffin crossings were safer than pelican crossings as the number of accidents and observed pedestrian conflicts or encounters were low. 

Two pelican crossings where the default setting is green for pedestrians have reduced accidents by 36% (from 14 to nine in the three years before and after installation).

Pelican and zebra crossings sited dose to the roundabout do not necessarily cause accident problems. 

Signal-controlled crossings (pelican, puffin and toucan crossings) have a total collision rate of 0.51/year per site (on or within 50 m of the crossing). 

The pehcan to puffin conversions, the installation of new puffin crossings, and the conversion of pelican-type to puffin-type indicators at traffic signals did not show significant changes in collision levels. 

Pelican and puffin crossings have similar safety records.
