Pectic substances sugar beet

To date, the structural features of pectic polysaccharides and plant cell walls have been studied extensively using chemical analysis and enzymatic degradation. In addition, research on isolation and physicochemical characterisation of pectin from citrus peels, apple peels, sunflower head residues and sugar beet pulp has been reported (2). However, the pectic polysaccharides extracted from wheat straw have only previously been reported by Przeszlakowska (3). The author extracted 0.44% pectic substances from Author to whom correspondence should be addressed. [Pg.637]

Juice purification. The beet sugar juice is turbid and contains about 17 percent sucrose, 1 to 2 percent organic nonsucrose matter including proteins, aminoacids, amides, saponius, and pectic substances. It also... [Pg.185]

Association of the cell wall-bound jS-D-fructofuranosidase of sugar beet seedlings with structural polysaccharides of the wall was investigated. After sequential extraction with boiling water, 0.5% H4edta and 24% KOH from the wall of sugar beet, the polysaccharides were prepared as pectic substances I and II, and hemicellulose. Solubilization of the enzyme in the presence of the polysaccharides and the profiles on gel filtration of the enzyme with the poly-... [Pg.431]

Leroy and Michaux found that sheep digested a high proportion of the pectic substances included in such foodstuffs as apple pulp, sugar beet pulp, hay, and straw. It was found that a sheep feeding on hay consumed from 75 to 102 g. daily of pectic substances (Michaux). The proportion of pectic acid to pectin is high in apple and sugar beet pulp, the ratio being... [Pg.144]
