Figure 28a shows a set of typical current-distance traces (/-r-Az) recorded upon retracting a coated-gold STM tip away from a T-PBI covered Au(lll) surface in 0.05 M LiC104 solution (pH 12). These curves exhibit characteristic single plateaus (dominant) or a series of plateaus separated by current steps. The steps are assigned to the breaking of individual (respectively multi-molecular) junctions of the PBI derivatives previously formed between the Au STM tip and the substrate surface. [Pg.169]

Horowitz et al. [561] studied the oxidation of a number of organic compounds at high surface area lead ruthenate in aqueous alkali. The ruthenate used may be represented as Pb2 (Ru(1 I)PbI)20(7, ) where may have oxygen vacancies up to = 1. Electrode fabrication was carried out by mounting the ruthenate powder on gold screen using Teflon as binder. Horowitz et al. [561] observed that lead ruthenate catalyzes the electro-oxidation of primary... [Pg.343]

Luminescent cyclometalated platinum(II) and gold(III) complexes [Pt(dpp-CNN)(MeCN)]+/ [Pt2(pby-CNN)2 (dppm)] +, and [Au(4-MeOPh-Phbpy)Cl] have been prepared and their interactions with calf thymus DNA and synthetic oligonucleotide duplexes poly(dG-dC)2 and poly(dA-dT)2 have been investigated. An intercalative binding mode was proposed for these complexes. [Pg.5441]

Fibers have been wet spun from dimethylacetamide solution, and a deep gold woven cloth has been made from this fiber by Celanese. The cloth is said to be more comfortable than cotton (due to high moisture retention) and has greater flame resistance than Nomex (oxygen index of 29% for PBI compared to 17% for Nomex). The U.S. Air Force has tested flight suits of PBI and found them superior to other materials. [Pg.518]

A colloidal suspension of nanostructured PBI-graphene sheets was used to modify a gold electrode to form a three-dimensional electrode with a sensitivity to hydrogen peroxide [25]. The positively charged nanostructured PBI separate the graphene sheets and keep them suspended in aqueous solution. This so fabricated electrode exhibits superior sensitivity toward hydrogen peroxide. [Pg.375]
