Pauson, Peter L. Organometallic Chemistry. London Edward Arnold, 1967. [Pg.304]

While there is no doubt that Peter Pauson and Samuel Miller and their coworkers have the priority regarding the isolation and characterization of FeCioHio, they were probably not the first to have prepared this novel organo-metallic compound. Eugene O. Brimm from Linde Air Products, nowadays well known for the first synthesis of Mn2(CO)i0 (see Chap. 4), was one of several industrial chemists who, after reading the communication by Kealy and Pauson, wanted to prepare a sample of the new substance. For this reason, he asked a colleague at Union Carbide (at that time Linde s parent company) whether they had any cyclopentadiene. The reply, that they not longer did so, was accompanied by the statement that, some years previously, they had... [Pg.130]

Apart from the di- and oligoolefm iron tricarbonyl complexes, which nowadays are frequently used in organic synthesis [71, 72], the chemistry of the readily accessible cyclohepatriene chromium and molybdenum tricarbonyls 2 and 3 was the focus of intense research efforts as well. Only a few months after the synthesis of 2 and 3 was published [58,59], both Hyp Dauben and Peter Pauson reported that these compounds react with triphenylmethyl tetrafluoro-borate in methylene chloride to give the tropylium complexes 4 and 5 in excellent yield (Scheme 7.1) [73, 74]. Later this method of hydride abstraction was also used for the preparation of the tropylium cation itself and subsequently led to the generation of several cationic rc-complexes of iron, manganese and cobalt [71, 72], The reactions of the cations of 4 and 5 with nucleophilic... [Pg.206]

In 1971 at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Professor Peter Pauson reported on the retro-Diels-Alder reaction of norbomadiene 3 induced by dicobalthexacarbonyl complexes of acetylene or phenylaeetylene 1 to provide dicarbonylcyclopentadienylcobalt complexes 4 in high yield. Almost as an after thought, he mentions In addition to the above products, the reaction of norbomadiene with complexes 1 yields hydrocarbon and ketonic products derived from norbomadiene, acetylene and carbon monoxide. ... [Pg.147]
