Pattern-matching facility

The main challenge here is to search the Phenotype Summary field for results having to do with locomotion. This is a fuzzy sort of problem, best solved using Perl s pattern-matching facility. After scanning throngh the results for a while, we decide to search for any of the following keywords nncoordinated, paralysis, paralyzed, coils, coder, movement, kinky, and jerky. [Pg.447]

An additional study did not reveal any effects on neurological function among 14 persons who lived above or next to dry cleaning facilities for 1-30 years compared to 23 controls matched for age ( 1 year, in two cases 3 and 5 years) and gender when the absolute values of the tests were examined (Altmann et al. 1995). Median tetrachloroethylene exposure concentrations were 0.2 ppm in the apartments of the exposed individuals and 0.0003 ppm in the apartments of control subjects, and blood concentrations were 17.8 46.9 pg/L in exposed individuals and less than the detection limit of 0.5 pg/L in the controls. When multivariate analysis was completed to adjust for age, gender, and education, an increased response time in a continuous performance test (p<0.05), increased simple reaction time to a visual stimuli (p<0.05), and decreased performance in a test of visual memory (p<0.05) were observed. No effect on pattern reversal visual-evoked potentials was... [Pg.133]

Searching of the database can be based on molecular formula, journal name, year, author, property, and a number of other key words. The database can also be searched according to a two-dimensional representation of the molecule of intCTest or even by a substmcture. In recent years many advances have been made in the input and output interfaces to the database. In Version 4 a graphical input/output interface was introduced which made the setting up and analysis of searches much easier. A similarity searching technique was also introduced which allowed matches to structures close to but not exactly the same as the query molecule. In Version 5 three-dimensional matching was introduced thereby allowing particular patterns to be examined both within and between molecules. Clearly, this is a powerful search facility which increases considerably the value of the information contained within the database. [Pg.130]
