Pathologic state

It was shown that Cyt c concentration decrease in blood of pathological state of cancer. The greater days carcinoma develops the less concentration of Cyt c in semm of mice. [Pg.367]

Almost anyone who has at some time in his life met some reverses is familiar with depression. In the normal course of events, changing circumstances will soon lead to the replacement of this state of mind by a more pleasant one. There exist, however, a set of pathologic states in which depression feeds on itself in a destructive cycle. Individuals affected with this syndrome— whether precipitated by outside events or not—eventually find it most difficult to function. The advent of antidepressant drugs, first the MAO inhibitors and more recently the tricyclic antidepressants, have made this syndrome amenable to treatment. [Pg.149]

One of the plasma proteins which is mainly responsible for the plasma protein binding of drugs. Its level is known to be elevated in some pathological states, such as inflammation. [Pg.12]

The basic form of ketosis occurs in starvation and involves depletion of available carbohydrate coupled with mobihzation of free fatty acids. This general pattern of metabohsm is exaggerated to produce the pathologic states found in diabetes meUitus, twin lamb disease, and ketosis in lactating catde. Nonpathologic forms of ketosis are found under conditions of high-fat... [Pg.188]

Review of postcontrast CTA source images might provide a good estimate of whole-brain perfusion." If time allows, MR or CT perfusion maps are obtained to characterize more accurately the ischemic penumbra." Careful but expedited preprocedural analysis of the CTA, done in parallel with transport of the patient to the treatment area, may be extremely helpful in establishing the presence of anatomic variants (e.g., bovine aortic arch) or pathological states (e.g., vessel origin or carotid bifurcation disease) prior to the catheterization procedure. [Pg.73]

Acidosis A pathologic state that leads to acidemia. [Pg.1559]

In some pathological states, fibrinolysis is hyperactive and inhibitors have a hemostatic value. [Pg.8]

Schmidt The only place that I can imagine that would be happening is in a pathological state in a mammalian organism, where the organism is in an insulin replete state and it hypertrophies its liver in response, where there is more plasticity. [Pg.220]

Ketosis is a pathologic state produced by an excess of ketone bodies in the organism. However, ketosis may be regarded as a lipid metabolism pathology with a certain reserve, since excessive biosynthesis of ketone bodies in the liver is sequent upon an intensive hepatic oxidation not only of fatty acids, but also of keto-genic amino acids. The breakdown of the carbon frameworks of these amino acids leads to the formation of acetyl-CoA and acetoacetyl-CoA, which are used in... [Pg.213]

Reliable measurements of L-lactate are of great interest in clinical chemistry, the dairy and vine industry, biotechnology, or sport medicine. In particular, blood lactate levels are indicative of various pathological states, including shock, respiratory insufficiencies, and heart and liver diseases. Silica sol-gel encapsulation of the lactate dehydrogenase and its cofactor was employed as a disposable sensor for L-lactate51. The sensor utilized the changes in absorbance or fluorescence from reduced cofactor nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) upon exposure to L-lactate. [Pg.365]

It is not the purpose of this article to review all dehydrogenases that are known at present and not even all of those that have been described in human tissues and body fluids. A few of them have been selected that are of importance for diagnostic, prognostic or, as therapy controlling tools or, that are known as etiologic factors of pathological states. [Pg.254]

There are a variety of pathological states in which the action of collagenases is strongly suspected. Some of these disease states are considered briefly below. Since current knowledge concerning the cellular source of the collagenases in these states is often conflicting, a discussion of this subject has been purposely avoided. Instead, possible sources are simply mentioned. [Pg.287]

The pK value indicates the pH range in which the dissociation of the H" occurs. More specifically, the pK is the pH at which the group is 50% dissociated, or half of it is in the acid form and half in the base form. These values of pK are used in determining the net charge a substance (amino acid, protein, drug) will have in the body and which ones will act as good buffers to keep the pH constant, and to understand pathologic states of acidosis and alkalosis. [Pg.119]

Liver sends triglycerides to adipose tissue packaged as very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL reviewed later in this chapter). A small amount of triglyceride may be stored in the liver. Accumulation of significant triglyceride in tissues other than adipose tissue usually indicates a pathologic state. [Pg.209]

If you think about the content of the above paragraph, you will come to a conclusion that you probably already know that the treatment of human cancers leaves a lot to be desired. For some pathological states, we have a lot of drugs that work quite... [Pg.346]
