Partial definition

Chapter 8, Composing Models and Specifications, discusses what it means to compose models that have partial definitions from different views or packages, paying special attention to specifying exceptions. 

Partial definitions of types or classes described from one user s point of view, with potentially different aspects of each type captured in different packages. 

In the second case, the imported model contains partial definitions the extenders add the missing pieces in different ways. For example, you might have two slightly different networking requirements one for small offices and a second one for large offices. They could perhaps contain different collaboration or type definitions at a detailed level but be based on a common underlying abstract model. 

The joined class has all the variables in the partial definitions Types must be the same. (If they were widened, the preconditions of some methods might fail, finding values in the variables they couldn t cope with if they were narrowed, some methods might find they could not store the values they needed to.)...

Methods are joined according to the rules for actions Only one method for each signature is allowed (within this class) and not even that if there is a pre/post spec attached to that signature in one of the other joinees. Pre/post specs can be inherited from superclasses. 

Collaborations, as partial definitions of object roles and types and their interactions, provide support for a pattern view of the dynamic aspects of an architecture. A design is often best understood as a composition of such patterns onto the objects involved rather than in terms of individual objects or interactions.

Most workers compensation laws recognize four classes of disability temporary total, permanent partial, permanent total, and death. Some states recognize an additional class temporary partial. Definitions for and interpretations of each class vary by compensation law. 

Let us assume that the model of functional reduction is not a purely empirical model that is supposed to capture how we actually carry out reductions. Nor is it a purely normative model that is concerned with how we should carry out reductions. Rather, it should be interpreted as a partial definition. If so, this approach is committed to the claim that at least some of the relata of the reduction relation are concepts (or modes of presentations, or senses of the expressions which refer to the items which are said to reduce), because it is the descriptive content of the terms that makes for diversity. The relevant concepts present us with an item, a. functional property, which is then said to be identical with a type at another level. It is easy to see how this relates to reduction as conceived of here ... 

The problem with the application of fliis principle in proteins is spectral crowding for proton interactions and, combined with this, only partial definition of hyperfine lines over the whole range of flie EPR spectrum. This makes direct tensor determination somewhat ambiguous, but in connection with known molecular stractures a unique solution can typically be found. A very important asset in this respect is site-directed mutagenesis, by which specific amino acid residues can be changed. For most of the examples of iron-sulfur clusters discussed, a full analysis was possible even without this tool.
