Parental neglect

There are many instances when a family member (collateral) will seek help for a problem before the person with the drug problem does. Often, however, the family member will not be forthcoming about the drug problem, or it will not be otherwise obvious that drug abuse is indirectly involved. Excellent examples of these types of situations include the family members seeking help as victims of domestic violence or parental neglect, or are injured in accidents. [Pg.58]

Through preoccupation with the abusing or addicted child s problems, parents neglect and sacrifice their own well-being (and those of other children in the family) to their physical and emotional cost. [Pg.70]

The FIF orbitals of the parent molecule are used to describe both species. It is said that such a model neglects "orbitalrelaxation" (i.e. the reoptimization of the spin orbitals to allow them to become appropriate to the daughter species). [Pg.2173]

Adams and Slack compared the electron densities and mobile bond orders of the parent molecule (21) with those of thiazole (22) and P50 idme (23). Overlap was neglected in these simplified calculations,... [Pg.113]

False. In the UK it is illegal to give alcohol to those under five years of age except for medical reasons. It is therefore legal for those over five to drink alcohol at home. However, if parents allowed excessive use it could be considered a form of neglect or abuse in the eyes of the law. [Pg.54]

In magmatic processes, both parent and daughter nuclides are usually present in the solid sources, magmas and crystallizing minerals, so that (N2), which is a priori unknown, cannot be neglected. In order to solve Equation (I) for t, the age of fractionation, both terms of this equation are divided by the concentration of a stable isotope (or the activity of a long-lived isotope) of the daughter element. Such a normalization, similar to those used in other classical radiometric methods (Rb-Sr, Sm-... [Pg.126]

As demonstrated in most of the other chapters of this book, there is a countless - and growing - number of applications of allenes in preparative organic chemistry. A need for an extra section on the use of allenic hydrocarbons in synthesis may therefore not be apparent. However, since this chapter concentrates on the construction and then preparation of novel jr-systems - neglecting all non-hydrocarbon substituents - some general remarks on the preparative usefulness of the parent systems seem to be in order. [Pg.222]

The rest Peter had not heard, but those few words, spoken by the passing lady on that day last summer, had suddenly recurred to his mind. St. Teresa s Orphanage, a home for children with bad parents who neglect or ill treat them. That was their case exactly, baby s and his. To St. Teresa s, then, they must go in search of a home. He was quite sure he could find it again. It was ever so far away, over on the other side of the city, but he remembered the way perfectly, and would have no difficulty in reaching the orphanage. [Pg.54]

MacDonald, K. (1987). Parent-child physical play with rejected, neglected and popular boys. Developmental Psychology s, 705-711. [Pg.63]

When parents use drugs, what happens to the children What we do know is told in statistics indicating a high likelihood of neglect and abuse and poor outcomes for many, as they in turn become adults. Whilst the texture of that deprivation of a nurturing environment is missing from these various researches, they convey with some clarity the scale of the problem and are summarized below. [Pg.14]

Physical abuse and neglect are the most common forms of maltreatment among parents who use drugs (Chaffin, Kelleher and Hollenberg 1996 Locke and Newcomb 2003 Child Welfare Information Gateway 2004). [Pg.14]
