Parallel applications, random number randomness

The commercially important anatase and rutile both have tetragonal structures consequently, the values of physical properties such as refractive index and electrical conductivity depend on whether these are being measured parallel or perpendicular to the principal, ie, c, axis. However, in most applications, this distinction is lost because of random orientation of a large number of small crystals. It is thus the mean value that is significant. Representative physical properties are collected in Table 6. [Pg.120]

In order to get higher speed, Monte Carlo applications make extensive use of parallel computers, since these calculations are particularly well suited to such architectures and often require very long runs. A common way to parallelize Monte Carlo is to put identical clones on the various processors only the random number sequences are different. It is therefore important for the sequences on the different processors to be uncorrelated. That is, given an initial segment of the sequence on one process, and the random number sequences on other processes, we should not be able to predict the next element of the sequence on the first process. For example, it... [Pg.20]

A number of papers have reported on CFD modeling with the commercial ANSYS/FLUENT software [13]. Several terms must be defined in conjunction with massive parallel processing prior to discussing different HPC applications. Cortex is a process that provides the user interface and graphics for FLUENT, that is, the graphic user interface (GUI) of ANSYS/FLUENT. ANSYS/FLUENT interacts with the host processor, which organizes and delegates the numerical tasks to different nodes. Each node possesses its own random-access memory (RAM), that is, 24 GB per node and 3 GB per core for the JuRoPA architecture. The host sends a request to the nodes, which store their results directly in parallel on the hard disk. [Pg.709]
