2-palmitoyl glycerol

Ben-Shabat and co-workers (1998) have reported that in the spleen, as in the brain and gut, 2-AG is accompanied by several 2-acyl-glycerol esters, two major ones being 2-linoleoyl-glycerol (2-Lino-Gl) and 2-palmitoyl-glycerol (2-Palm-Gl). These two esters do not bind to the cannabinoid receptors.

The dynamics of lipid movement between the two leaflets of membrane lipid bilayers has been monitored using a variety of phospholipid analogs. Most of the analogs incorporate a reporter group attached to the C-2 of the glycerol moiety. One common substituent is a florescent-labelled fatty acid to form 1,2-(palmitoyl-N-4-nitrobenzo-2-oxa-1,3-diazole-amino-caproyl)...

The ovaries of the Japanese sea urchin Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus contained a bitter tasting amino acid, pulcherrimine (643) [513]. A sulfonoglycolipid isolated from the shell of the sea urchin Anthocidarias crassispina was a 96 4 mixture of r-0-palmitoyl-3 -0-(6-sulfo-a-D-quinovopyranosyl)glycerol (644) and the myristoyl counterpart (645) [514],... 

Palmitoyl-sii-glycerol (R-glycerol-l-palmitate, L-p-palmitin) [32899-41-5] M 330.5, 0.9014, m 66.5 (a-form), 74 (p -form) and 77 (p-form). The stable p-form is obtained by crystn from EtOH or Skellysolve B and recrystn from Et2O provides the P -form. The a-form is obtained on cooling the melt. Es ist offensichtlich, daR sich in diesem System Enantiomere in der Bezifferung unterscheiden. Beispielsweise ist das Enantiomer von 3-O-Palmitoyl-sn-glycerol das 1-O-Palmitoyl-sn-glycerol. 

Eukaryotic phospholipids typically have two fatty acid chains linked to a glycerol by ester bonds, with the third position of the glycerol esterified to a phosphate group. Most phospholipids also have a head group such as choline, ethanolamine, or serine attached to the phosphate, and one such lipid is shown below (1-palmitoyl, 2-oleoyl phosphatidylcholine). The precise function of the variable head groups has not yet been established.
