Palladium complexes infrared spectra

The analytical data for this dark red complex suggest a Pd P ratio of somewhere between 3 4 and 3 5 indicating a trimeric palladium skeleton which is a common structural unit in palladium chemistry (4). The infrared spectrum (Nujol) is quite complex in the carbonyl region and shows clearly that bo termini ( 0 0 18, 1843, 1810 cm ) and bridging (Oq) 1765, 1750, 1735 cm" ) CO are present. The P NMR spectrum at room temperature shows only an unresolved broad hump at 8 13. At higher temperatures, this sharpens considerably while at lower temperatures (ca. -25° C), the spectrum exhibits three poorly-resolved absorptions at about 5 25, 18 and 0. A solid state P MAS spectrum (room temperature) is similar in appearance but is much better resolved with absorptions at 5 23.5, 15.0,... 

After this we embarked upon a comprehensive study of the infrared spectra of amine complexes of platinum and palladium. On the other hand, the palladium and platinum complexes of pyridine-2-aldoxime, when treated with acetyl chloride in hot chloroform, gave stable chelates containing the acylated ligand. A monoacetylated palladium chelate was isolated in which 1 mole of pyridine-2-aldoxime was replaced by two chloride ions (see reaction XXIV).
