There are two broad classes of paint pigments, organic and inorganic. In most cases, there will be several organic and inorganic pigments for the same color group. 

Molybdate orange and red are pigments (qv) that contain lead(II) molybdate [10190-33-3], PbMoO, formulated in mixed phases with PbCrO and PbSO. The mixed phase is more intensely colored than any of the component phases. Concerns about lead content are lessening the use of these materials (see also Paint). Various organic dyes are precipitated with heteropolymolybdates. This process allows the fixation of the dye in various fabrics. The molybdenum anion generally imparts light stabiHty to the colorant as weU (91). 

Some anthraquinone dyes are employed as organic pigments (see Pigments, organic). Examples appear in Figure 1. Indanthrone blue (6) is an important automotive paint pigment as is Cl Pigment Red 177 (7), a bisanthraquinonyl. 

Organic materials, such as polymers, paints, pigments and dyes, are used in everything from car parts to fine art. Polymers exposed to UV light can lose mechanical strength and integrity, while UV light causes...

Titanium dioxide is widely used in the production of plastics, enamels, artificial fibers, electronic materials, and rubber (Hadjiivanov and Klissur-ski, 1996). Its ability to photocatalyze the oxidation of organic materials has been known for years in the paint industry. For this reason, TiOz is used as a white paint pigment (Stafford et al., 1996). TiOz is also known as an excellent catalyst for semiconductor photocatalysis due to its nonselectivity for environmental engineering applications it is nontoxic, insoluble,...
