From Brazil Extract inhibits the amphipod P. hawaiensis and the crab Pachygrapsus transversus (Pereira et al. 2000b), a diterpenoid inhibits P. hawaiensis (Pereira et al. 2000a). From North Carolina Pachydictyol A and dictyol E act as antifoulants (Schmitt et al. 1995), dictyol B acetate and dictyodial cause larval mortality, abnormal development, and reduced growth in bryozoans and hydioids (Schmitt et al. 1998) extract inhibits the urchin A. punctulata (Bolser and Hay 1996)... [Pg.36]

The effects of KC1 and NaCI and several organic solutes on the Km of phosphoenol pyruvate (PEP) (modified after Bowlus and Somero, 1979). (Middle panel) Malate dehydrogenase of the mangrove (Rhizophora mangle). Effects of NaCI and three organic osmolytes (the amino acid proline and the polyols pinitol and OMMI) on catalytic activity (modified after Sommer et al., 1990). (Bottom panel) Effects of NaCI and four osmolytes found in mammalian kidney (urea, glycine betaine, sorbitol, and inositol) on the Km of uric acid of uricase (modified after Yancey, 1992). Low bioconcentration factors for uranium were observed in fish. The highest bioconcentration factors observed in fillet of rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri), white and finescale suckers (Castastomus catactomus), and lake whitefish (C. clupeaformis) did not exceed a value of 38 (Mahon 1982 Poston 1982 Swanson 1983, 1985). Ahsanullah and Williams (1989) concluded that the primary source of uranium for crab (Pachygrapsus laevimanus) and zebra winkle (Austrocochlea constricta) was from water since both fed and starved animals took up uranium at the same rate. [Pg.289]
