Oxygen-generating equipment

Properly designed respiratory support equipment is configured to safely contain the oxygen-generating chemicals. These systems, when hermetically sealed, are stable to storage and safe to use. [Pg.488]

Historically, potassium metal was used by the Mine Safety AppHances Company (parent company of Gallery Chemical Company) to develop potassium superoxide [12030-88-5] oxygen source in self-contained breathing equipment (see Oxygen-GENERATION systems). Greater understanding... [Pg.518]

Fig. 6.11-6a depicts a cross-sectional view of a typical chemical oxygen generator and Fig. 6.11-6b is the photograph of actual equipment for aircraft that is housed behind the panels above each seat. The heart of such an oxygen generator is the chemical core. [Pg.852]

In the absence of air, TEE disproportionates violently to give carbon and carbon tetrafluoride the same amount of energy is generated as in black powder explosions. This type of decomposition is initiated thermally and equipment hot spots must be avoided. The flammability limits of TEE are 14—43% it bums when mixed with air and forms explosive mixtures with air and oxygen. It can be stored in steel cylinders under controlled conditions inhibited with a suitable stabilizer. The oxygen content of the vapor phase should not exceed 10 ppm. Although TEE is nontoxic, it may be contaminated by highly toxic fluorocarbon compounds. [Pg.349]

Probably the most significant control technology breakthrough came m 1977, when Volvo released a computer-controlled, fuel-mjected vehicle equipped with a three-way catalyst. The new catalytic converters employed platinum, palladium, and rhodium to simultaneously reduce NO and oxidize CO and HC emissions under carefully controlled oxygen conditions. The new Bosch fuel injection system on the vehicle provided the precise air/fuel control necessary for the new catalyst to perform effectively. The combined fuel control and three-way catalyst system served as the foundation for emissions control on the next generation of vehicles. [Pg.451]
