Oxygen, crystalline phases

In addition to particle aspect ratio and concentration, permeability is affected by several other factors including polymer crystallinity, particle orientation, and adhesion. Modified equations to accommodate misalignment effects and the presence of the (assumed) impermeable to oxygen crystalline phase of HOPE in mica/HDPE films have been proposed [37]. [Pg.174]

Although the liquid crystalline phase of most polybibenzoates usually undergoes a rapid transformation into a three-dimensional crystal, the introduction of oxygen atoms in the spacer of polybibenzoates has been used to prevent or to slow down this transformation. The dynamic mechanical behavior of polybibenzoates with 2, 3, or 4 oxyethylene groups in the spacer (PDEB, PTEB, and PTTB, respectively) is determined by the composition of the spacer [24], as discussed in this section. [Pg.394]

The oxidation of the crystalline phase occurs 15 times more slowly than the oxidation of the amorphous phase and is likely localized in the boundary regions. The autoxidation of PE and PP occurs at the rate, which is slower at higher crystallinity of polymers and vice versa, as indicated by the amount of the oxygen consumed. Based on the evidence accumulated, it is safe to say that PE and PP are oxidized in their amorphous regions [12,33,34,42,67],... [Pg.482]

Correlation functions hoo(R) for the amorphous deposit prepared and studied at 77 K are shown in Fig. 7b together with the curve for polycrystalline ice Ih. As in the crystalline phase, the nearest-neighbor oxygen-oxygen correlations in H20(as) occur in an exceptionally narrow band centered at 2.76 A, with rms-deviation 0.114 A. The distance ratio for second and first neighbors indicates tetrahedral coordination on the average, but the second neighbor peak near... [Pg.129]

The basic structural element in both vitreous and crystalline silica is the Si04-4 tetrahedron, which arises from the sp hybrid orbitals of the silicon. Each silicon atom sits in the center of the tetrahedron surrounded by four oxygen atoms that hold the comer positions. Tetrahedrons bond together by comer sharing. In a properly developed structure, each oxygen is shared by only two tetrahedrons. This bonding scheme can produce a large variety of three-dimensional structures and is the reason that silica has a number of crystalline phases. [Pg.497]

Chemical analyses and physical property measurements made on the starting materials and the products of the ammonium fluotitanate reactions are shown in Table 2. The analytical data for the products of the iron ammonium fluoride reaction are shown in Table 3. Following treatment, the various zeolite products contained up to 16.1 wt.% Ti02 in the zeolites treated with ammonium fluotitanate, and up to 16.9 wt.% Fe203 in the zeolites treated with ammonium Iron fluoride. X-ray powder diffraction intensity is decreased in the substituted products, but retention of oxygen and water adsorption capacity indicates that pore volume has been retained. No extraneous peaks due to other crystalline phases were observed in the X-ray powder diffraction patterns of well washed products. [Pg.423]
