In addition, it would be highly desirable if the chemical composition of the formation were alkaline so that, in the long term, the carbon dioxide would be tied up permanently as a basic carbonate.

It is expected that the alternative methods are going to be more and more used. The overall prospective is that these methods will offer possibilities addressing toxicity on a different angle compared to classical methods. Thus, they can also be integrated within a weight of evidence approach. 

The cofiring process is a characteristic process in which materials suited to LTCCs are selected and this can be thought of as the key to deciding the product form of the LTCC. Here we focus on the cofiring process and the developmental direction of future LTCCs. The overall prospects for the future of LTCCs are covered in Chapter 10. 

More recent reports conclude that early CEA after a nondisabling ischemic stroke can be performed with perioperative mortality and stroke rates comparable to those of delayed CEA. In a subgroup analysis by the North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET) investigators, 42 patients who underwent early CEA (<30 days after stroke) were compared with 58 patients who underwent delayed CEA (>30 days), and no overall difference was demonstrated in the perioperative stroke rate (4.8% vs. 5.2%). Another recent prospective randomized study of 86 patients showed no difference in either perioperative stroke (2% in both groups) or survival rates (mean 23 months follow-up) between patients randomized to early or delayed CEA. ... 

Two decades ago in 1979 Heyden et al.78 in an Evans County, Georgia, prospective investigation examined heavy coffee consumption relative to overall cancer mortality. In a comparison of 74 patients who died of cancer with 74 patients matched on sex, age, and race who died of cardiovascular disease, and 74 healthy survivors, also matched on sex, age, and race, they failed to find an association between relatively heavy coffee consumption (>5 cups/day) and cancer.
