Other Applications of Multi-Enzyme Oxidizing Systems [Pg.56]

the oxidase-substrate reaction yields oxidized substrate and inactive reduced enzyme the enzyme is returned to its active state by electron transfer, producing hydrogen peroxide. The peroxidase converts the peroxide, generating an electrochemical signal in the electrode. [Pg.57]

In an early application, an enzyme electrode system was reported for the determination of creatinine and creatine, using a combination of creatinine amidohy-drolase, creatine amidinohydrolase and sarcosine oxidase, co-immobilized on an asymmetric cellulose acetate membrane. Thus, the hydrogen peroxide produced was detected to give a quantitative measure of creatine and creatinine in biological fluids [70]. [Pg.57]

In a system devised to oxidize a dye, glucose oxidase and horseradish peroxidase were coassembled by layer-by-layer alternative adsorption to construct multienzyme films. The peroxidase was adsorbed to poly(styrene sulfonate) while glucose oxidase was adsorbed to poly(ethylene imine), allowing for sequential redox reactions to take place resulting in the subsequent oxidation of the textile dye DA67 [71]. [Pg.57]
