For four- or five-membered cyclic transition states, pyrolysis only leads to beta-elimination if the C -H and C -X bonds can eclipse so as to ensure the necessary proximity for reaction. Using the focused ion beam method for grain size analyses and EBSD for phase identification, Jonsson et al. [99] also confirmed that the magnetite layer formed on pure iron at 500°C in oxygen possessed the duplex stmcture with two distinct layers - a columnar outer layer and a fine-grained irmer layer. It can be observed from the Figure 1 that the sensitivity of I.I. system is quite low at lower thicknesses and improves as the thicknesses increase. Further the sensitivity is low in case of as observed images compared to processed images. This can be attributed to the quantum fluctuations in the number of photons received and also to the electronic and screen noise. Integration of the images reduces this noise by a factor of N where N is the number of frames. Another observation of interest from the experiment was that if the orientation of the wires was horizontal there was a decrease in the observed sensitivity. It can be observed from the contrast response curves that the response for defect detection is better in magnified modes compared to normal mode of the II tube. Just as it is not necessary for polymer chains to be linear, it is also not necessary for all repeat units to be the same. We have already mentioned molecules like proteins where a wide variety of different repeat units are present. Among synthetic polymers, those in which a single kind of repeat unit are involved are called homopolymers, and those containing more than one kind of repeat unit are copolymers. Note that these definitions are based on the repeat unit, not the monomer. An ordinary polyester is not a copolymer, even though two different monomers, acids and alcohols, are its monomers. By contrast, copolymers result when different monomers bond together in the same way to produce a chain in which each kind of monomer retains its respective substituents in the polymer molecule. The unmodified term copolymer is generally used to designate the case where two different repeat units are involved.
