The individual chemical species with chiral catalytic properties, such as complex, organometallic compounds, organic ligands or molecules, anchored or grafted into the channels of microporous and mesoporous materials, and some microporous compounds possessing chiral channels or their pore structures composed of the chiral motifs, all promise further development and potential application in microporous chiral (asymmetric) catalysis and separations. It is an important frontier direction in the zeolite catalytic field at present. Therefore, the synthesis and assembly of chiral microporous compounds and materials are of particular interest for researchers engaged in porous materials. This is a research field in rapid development. [Pg.218]

The use of inorganic supramolecular compounds in catalysis has also been successful in recent years. Hupp etal. incorporated a Mn (III)-porphyrin see Porphyrin) epoxidation catalyst inside a molecular square, a system that shows enhanced catalyst stability and substrate selectivity as compared to the free catalyst. In another example, chiral metallocyclophanes were constructed from Pt(PEt3)2 units and enantiopure atropoisomeric l,E-binapthyT6,6 -bis-(acetylenes) and used in enantioselective diethyl zinc addition to aldehydes to afford chiral secondary alcohols. The first organometallic triangle based on Pt(II) and alkyne-di-substituted-binaphthyl system was reported and found to effect asymmetric catalysis reactions of aldehydes to alcohols with excellent conversion rates and enantiomeric excess/ ... [Pg.5722]

In organic and organometallic chemistry, asymmetric catalysts play an important role in enantioselective synthesis, and the majority of these are mononuclear organometallic compounds. It was for their work on asymmetric catalysis that W. S. Knowles, R. Noyori and K. B. Sharpless won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2001, " and hence the study of chirality for this class of compounds is of the utmost importance. For this reason, following on from Chapter 2, which lays the necessary groundwork in organometallic and coordination chemistry, in Chapter 3 we will develop the study of the chemistry of chiral mononuclear organometallic complexes and asymmetric catalysis in brief. [Pg.3]
