Some structural aspects of the organometallic compounds of the alkali metals have already been briefly mentioned in Section 4.3.6. The diagonal relation of Li with Mg (p. 76), coupled with the known synthetic utility of Grignard reagents (pp. 132-5), suggests that Li, and perhaps the other alkali metals, might afford synthetically... [Pg.102]

A variety of organometallic compoundshave been used to couple with alkyl halides. " Organosodium and organopotassium compounds are more reactive than Grignard reagents and couple even with less reactive halides. Organolithium... [Pg.536]

Four different laboratories have built IR kinetic spectrometers for use with organometallic compounds. A fundamental feature of all these spectrometers is that the detector is AC coupled. This means that the spectrometers only measure changes in IR absorption. Thus, in the time-resolved IR spectrum, bands due to parent compounds destroyed by the flash appear as negative absorptions, bands due to photoproducts appear as positive absorptions, and static IR absorptions, due to solvents, for example, do not register at all. The important features of these spectrometers are listed in Fig. 2. Since three spectrometers have a line-tunable CO laser as the monochromatic light source, we begin with the CO laser. Then we look in more detail at spectrometers designed for gas phase and solution experiments. [Pg.290]

Equations 10 and 11 indicate that the redox potential of the HQ/BQ couple is shifted in the negative direction when ti6-chemisorbed but shifted in the positive direction when 2,3-ti2-bonded. This orientation-dependent shift in redox potential is not unexpected by analogy with molecular organometallic compounds. For example, the redox potential for the reversible, one-electron reduction of duroquinone in acetonitrile is shifted from -0.90 V (vs. SCE) to -0.69 V in bis (duroquinone) Ni (0) and to -1.45 V in (1,5 — cyclooctadiene) (duroquinone)Ni (0) (22.) ... [Pg.534]

The activity of chemically active AF paints usually relies on the reactivity of organometallic compounds (e.g. TBT-, Zn-, Si, Cu- acrylates and Zn-resinates) and inorganic pigments (i.e. CU2O). In spite of this, scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray detectors (SEM-EDX) has not been used extensively to characterise such reactions. Bishop and Silva... [Pg.215]
