Organization design issues

Health on the Net (HON) (www.hon.ch) is a nonprofit organization designed to aid nonmedical Internet users to reliable and valid information on health-related issues. Web pages that meet the standards set forth by HON can display its HON code logo, indicating that such high standards are met. This symbol can provide the layperson a reasonable sense of certainty that the information provided on the site is credible. [Pg.450]

The concept of optimal usability is more complex. An optimized design will allow users maximal use of their performance and skill resources, allocated at their discretion to the apphcation task, to maximize their performance on the application task. Thus an optimal design minimizes the resources required to perform the interaction task and enhances the utiKty of the user s resources in performing the apphcation task. This means that the interface will support the user in performing the portion of the apphcation task allocated to the user. This is accomphshed through apphcation-level design issues associated with the organization and level of objects, actions, and information. [Pg.1344]

Consistency reduces training requirements and memory requirements and promotes skill development. Consistency applies across a wide variety of design issues and must be incorporated in every architectural category. Examples include object, action, and information organizations, task flows, representations for objects and actions, and procedures. TAG [Payne and Green, 1986 Schiele and Green, 1990] provides a... [Pg.1347]

The organization of this chapter parallels that of its predecessors in Part II, describing first the design of drag flow rheometers, then pressure-driven ones. Separate sections are devoted to analysis of data, particularly sinusoidal oscillations, and to special designs for process-line rheological measurements. The section on exten-sional rheometry is brief because most of the design issues were discussed in Chapter 7. [Pg.338]

For this reason, sodium bentonite might not be the most appropriate barrier material. Furthermore, other materials may be available more readily and might be more cost-effective to use. Therefore, much research has been directed at other low-permeability materials that might be used for active containment. Thornton et al. present results from a study of a high-attenua-tion liner material constructed from low-cost natural and industrial waste available in the UK. Laboratory column experiments were used to assess the performance of this and other potential liner materials to contain mobile organic and inorganic components by chemical means. Results of the experiments are discussed and linked to important landfill liner design issues. For example, additives could be included within the main liner material, or a separate liner could be placed beneath the main liner to act as a secondary chemical containment system. [Pg.299]

Commitment to OE—All levels of management are actively engaged with their respective organizations on issues related to OE system which includes its design, implementation, effectiveness and continuous improvement. These individuals demonstrate clear, consistent and visible commitment to the organizations values and the objectives of OE. [Pg.126]
