Organic pigments greens

Phthalocyanine pigments account for approximately 23% of the total worldwide organic pigment consumption of 225,000 tons. Approximately 20,000 t are used in printing inks, 10,000 t in paints, 9,000 t in plastics, 3,000 t in textiles, 7,000 t in dyes, and 2,000 t in specialty uses. Table 1 shows the worldwide distribution of cmde phthalocyanine capacity. The production history of phthalocyanine in the United States from 1980 to 1990 is given in Table 2 (161). The 1990 prices of phthalocyanine blue and green pigments were ca 11—22/kg and 21—27/kg, respectively. 

Statistics for the production of basic dyes include those products hsted as cationic dyes, eg, cyanines, for dyeing polyacrylonitrile fibers and the classical triaryhnethane dyes, eg, malachite green, for coloring paper and other office apphcations (2,53). Moreover, statistics for triaryhnethane dyes are also hidden in the production figures for acid, solvent, mordant, and food dyes, and also organic pigments. Between 1975 and 1984, the aimual production of basic dyes in the United States varied from 5000—7700 t. However, from 1985—1990, aimual production of basic dyes varied from 5000—5700 t, and the annual sales value increased from 56 to 73 million per year. 

Metal chelation is also a means of insoliihilizing organic molecules. For example. Cl Pigment Green 10 [51931 -46-5] (138) (Cl 12775) is a 2 1 nickel complex of a bidentate o-hydroxyazo ligand. 

At present, Phthalocyanine Blue and Phthalocyanine Green are among the most important organic pigments in the market and are sold in large volume. 

Carbon black is the most widely used organic pigment, but phthalocyanine blues and greens are available in many shades and are also widely used.
